A Central African prestige knife, probably Kuba, featuring a hand-forged iron leaf-shaped blade mounted in a finely carved hardwood handle. The grip is decorated throughout with geometric chip-carved motifs and terminates in a carved cylindrical pommel, reflecting the distinctive decorative traditions of the Kasai region.

Prestige knives of this type served as symbols of rank, authority, and wealth, presented during ceremonial occasions and carried by individuals of status rather than intended for everyday use. The forged blade retains an attractive naturally aged patina with incised decoration near the shoulders, while the carved handle displays excellent craftsmanship and rich surface character. An impressive ethnographic example with strong visual appeal and collector appeal.Provenance: Property from an important private collection, assembled by a dealer and collector over more than six decades.
Size: 15 in. overall.
